Still enjoying the 1800's

We are headed to the Cabin.
for some much needed rest and relaxation.
No phones, no electricity, no mail.
Just my peaceful cabin walls
softly speaking of days long ago.
Smoky smell of a fire in the stove
Crisp morning mountain air
Quiet moonlight evenings

 Goods for the Cabin

I could not go to the cabin and not take some old stuff.
I found this amazing table with drawer,
I think it might have been a desk.
Sanded off the rough edges and gave it a coat of "Old English"
This sweet shaker chair will be perfect to sit on
while sipping afternoon tea.

Now, this is my cup of tea~~~~

Baskets, Vermont Sugar Bucket, Candle Lantern, Peg Rack

A makeover shelf for my kitchen
Always have room for one more Prim shelf
Make do Greeting to hang outside the door
Prim 1776 flag mounted on an original
 board from the cabin.

Some New Duds
I could not go without a new outfit....
I stitched up a simple work day dress with pinner apron.

Dress is burgundy, collar and sleeve trim
is from a Civil War Era fabric, cream and burgundy.
I added cream piping along the collar edge.
Buttons down the front, a leather belt completes this simple dress.
My pinner apron is made of  homespun plaid fabric,
brown, black, cream and a fine touch of burgundy.
The apron completely surrounds the dress,
except for about 4 inches in the back
closes with a buttoned extension.
I am wearing a petticoat under slip that I made a few years back,
no hoop slip with this dress~~~~

Looking forward to leaving the heat of Missouri
98 again today
in exchange for the cool mountain air of Colorado.

I will share this year's trip with you all upon our return.
Tell then, Blessings Everyone

  5. Hi Connie, your dress and apron are simply wonderful. I love how they turned out.

Not sure where in CO your cabin is, but it cooled down tremendously up here in Evergreen (7,300 feet). It was 50F around 8:30pm! Yesterday, the sun was hot with a chilly breeze. I hope that means fall is very close!

  6. I just saw your page about the cabin and I see you're on the western slope. The old Ghost Town sounds great, I had never heard of Turret before. We've just driven through Salida during our trips to California.

I hope you have a blessed time at your cabin and the trip out here!

    Blessings, Jessica

  8. Can you please pick me up along the way?? Sounds like heaven...I'll pack some stitchery and amuse myself well - so won't be much of a bother. ;o) Seriously - hope you have a wonderful time - somehow I know you will. Love your wonderful goodies - the old library desk and chair are perfect - and who doesn't love a basket or two?? But I have to say, that very first photo just grabbed at me - wow....plays with your mind - makes you feel like you are back in time - but really there, not just an observer....Gorgeous - your simple outfit is perfect. (Love your new one too though!!) Enjoy - safe travels! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  9. Love all your goodies you are taking with you and your new dress. It is finally cooling off here in Southern OK, going to be in the 80s, starting on Labor Day, quite the change from being in the 100s for 2 months! Have a great time and I am hoping to see some pictures of the cabin and the mountains, when you get back.

    Bear Hugs & Blessings~Karen
